Not too much going down lately, but 3 things to note…

…end badly for me on the first hand!  i was dealt Q-high with a 7, and Ads was dealt Q-high with a 9.  I raised, he pushed, i called and drew the Q, hit a K and was a gonna.  Should I gave drawn the Q?  Maybe – Ads would have drawn his if i’d stood pat, thats the advantage of position.  Madness.

It’s free to enter, and the prizes are things like iMacs and PS3s, so it’s just a bit of fun.  That said, no-one plays to lose.  But then, in this event, lots of players do indeed play as if they are playing to lose, coz there aren’t actually that many people who know what they are doing.  For example, a friend of mine on an adjacent table made a set of K’s in the flop, bet and was called by a limper, bet the turn and the river and was busted by a guy who had called with 7d-5d and hit a runner-runner flush.  To make matters worse, he was busy looking at the hand-ranking chart provided by Betfair to see if a flush was any good as the dealer was pushing the chips his way )  I, on the other hand, ended up pushing all in from early pos with K-J after a series of amusing pots, and i got 5 callers so i was pretty sure i was on my way out.  It turned out i actually had the best hand (!) and i was rivered by someone with Q-J.  Thats freeroll poker for you.

2-7 is deeply infuriating
Honestly, i’m no genius at any form of poker, and i’m really only getting started at 2-7, but i have a good idea of what i’m doing, i’ve spoken to some experienced players, read some good stuff and practiced, and i have reasonable handle on whats going on.  Its awesome that Pokerstars have this game available and there are some seriously weak players playing it at low levels.  The frustrating thing is that they seem to keep hitting winning hands from out of nowhere – seriously, there are plenty of people calling and drawing 2 cards all the way to the last draw and somehow coming up with a 7 or good 8.  Nothing in hold ‘em ever puts me on tilt, but 2-7 gets me seriously close )
